We're back in Japan this spring, and the house is open for another season of spring community events !!
May is packed: a backyard pavilion + art build week, a sake event outside Komoro Station, a social tech hackathon, a language café, and a researcher-in-residence producing an artifact of anthropology study at our makerspace. There will be ample time for events in between: house tours, ambient coworking, yakiniku with locals, a walk up a mountain to an onsen, tea in our backyard teahouse.
More info about our makerspace here: Chapter 1: Komoro Makerspace

Pay what you want: *We never want cost to be a barrier. However, since we do operate a material space, we have expenses. Donate what you can here to keep things going, with suggested $20/event — more if you can afford to, less if you can’t.
100% of proceeds go toward maintaining the community space, rural revitalization, and supporting community events.*

← Our last build in our backyard in the spring of 2025: a teahouse made from traditional wood-joinery methods
May 5, 3pm: Intro presentation about Akiya Collective from the founder & director Michelle. During this time, we will also be brainstorming for an art project + site build
Some ideas brewing in the art realm:

To celebrate the end of the build week, we are hosting a sunset BBQ at night in our new backyard at 5pm with local Komoro friends. This will also serve as a mixer for our social tech hackathon, which will be formally kicking off the day after. You won’t want to miss this!
