Residency Ops

• Take the bills that arrive in the post and bring them to 7-Eleven, pay for them at the cashier. You will have to pay in cash. Put the receipt in Ziploc bag on the living room shelf, take a picture + send to Michelle, and she will reimburse you
  • Usually the bills come as folded + sealed pages that you have to open up. When they are open, they should look something like this:

• Check the trash calendar and bring out the right trash at 6am-8am to the little pedestal across the street.
  • Trash calendar is on the side of the fridge- look at corresponding colors and dates
  • Make sure you refill the correct trash bag in the right bin (there is a reference color guide on the bin). Extra trash bags are under the sink

• More trash can be brought to “Clean Hill Komoro” for a fee. Make sure it’s in burnable bags and drive it to the place. They will ask you for a residency permit and fill out a specific document (see image).

• Occasionally, during the winter, when using too many electric heaters + devices that draw a high voltage (microwave, water heater), the breaker will trip

• In this event, please turn off several units, and pull the string on the breaker next to the kitchen sink. Push all the switches back so they are flat. The end result should look like this:

• Also please make sure that the two water heaters near the sink are powered on again (the buttons should look like this: 入/ 切), or there will only be cold water in the house
  • Please make sure you turn on BOTH heaters!

• To use the washer + dryer, turn it on using the 入/ 切 button, and then press start.

  • Usually the mode is set to both wash + dry (洗・乾), but feel free to switch modes to just wash or dry your clothes
  • If there are too many clothes, your clothes might be still a bit damp - in this case, hang them up or run an extra dry cycle
  • There is automatic dispensing of laundry detergent + fabric softener. If you see the flower or laundry detergent sign flash on the top left hand side of the screen, you need to refill them using the white bottles on the wooden windowsill
  • Every week or two weeks, empty out the dry lint at the top of the machine, and also clear the wet lint at the bottom of the machine (there’s a fist sized circular hole at the bottom left of the machine. Press it once to open the latch, then turn the knob clockwise to pull it out- empty the lint in the trash and rinse it out so it is fully clean in the sink.
    • This is especially important, as if the lint builds up too much, the washing machine won’t be able to clear the water, and may overflow with water the next time you open the latch

• If people come stay over, show them to their designated room. Each futon set should have clean sheets + a clean towel inside of it. When the person leaves, make sure they zip up their sheets, and put them + the towel in the washer and dryer. Put the futon set back in the bag as well

  • Please take the clean sheets and towel, and fold them back up / put them back in the set where they came from

• [if company card was left with the steward] Check receipts with persona card (ending in 4506 or 5017) and put all of them in the Ziploc bag on the living room shelf, others leave on the side.

Bi-weekly cleaning (every other Sunday)

Please tidy up during the week, but this is a deep clean protocol that we ask residents to do every two weeks at minimum

• For compost:
  • Dig a hole in the garden, put compost inside, crush it, mix it with soil
  • If it is too cold, and the ground is frozen, put the compost in the designated brown paper bag, and during the collection days (usually Tuesdays and Fridays, leave it at the trash pickup point)
• Vacuum all floors, including individual rooms that are being utilized, as well as hallways
  • When vacuuming tatami mats, please make sure to go along the grain (not against) to prevent damage
  • Extra vacuum bags are in the closet under the stairs
• Clean kitchen + dining room: mop / vacuum, sink (under the food capture cover), surfaces, fridge, tops of trashcans, etc
  • Clean the fish / bread oven section under the gas oven
