Also, not sure if this is the right group to share, but if anyone wants to co-work on sourcing some more subsidies I made a shortlist of resources that can support starting companies/buying houses late last year - there's a column for culture/art as well, some friends and I wanted to do a moon light festival by a this lake but ran out of juice

Depending on the approach, I might add that there are a growing number of programs targeting global founders that might be good to also source, especially if there's anything connected to tech + rural revitalization or health (JPN Govt *tha-rows money at anything with AI or Silicone Valley associated with it). A good friend Miho Tanaka just left Shibuya Startup Support to build her own consultancy focusing on helping foreign founders, she'd be great to intro if this approach made sense (forgive my ignorance if this doesn't, I'm purely thinking operations/what would make sense with Japan's current regulations).

Omg @michellehuang42 I dunno if you already have someone on this but I have gone through real estate juju purchasing a house with a group; currently work with govt to change regulation (granted it’s medical so maybe a lil different); have Kengo Kuma on speed dial (their rates are stupid expensive recommend going with local craftsman/workers) who carry generational knowledge of the land/architecture vs brand prestige; have just done taxes for two companies (but recommend hiring accountant); and I know airports + locations nearby including Narita holdout houses (although I recommend not being *there there) where can I send my cv pls lol
All of that is to say that this is very exciting and if not me I can 100% find other people to build a Japan team! also curious if there are any other ppl based in Japan in this group rn?

I’d love to incorporate some strat/op collective brainstorming on how this DAO can address challenges in equitable capital, revitalization and social/environmental challenges (gotta dream right) one example of this that might be of interest to model off, is japans plastic problem. We’re the second worst globally when it comes to plastic waste per capita - with waste in general while there’s high recycling, ~70% is burned except in places like Kamikatsu known as Japans first zero waste town. Kengo Kuma did an interesting pilot of a house up cycling plastic into a green house inspired by indigenous Ainu builds called Chise - its an ongoing experiment but it might be interesting to see how to tie things like that or what I see as micro innovations related to existing traditional methods of building with new tech + financing to make it cost and energy efficient and more accessible to people https://www.dezeen.com/2013/01/16/meme-meadows-experimental-house-by-kengo-kuma-and-associates/

I imagine this DAO building something that blends Japanese heritage and global tech to build more progressive conversations - an artist James Turrell built this bouge space called house of light - super simple but really inspires wonder and reflection maybe this could be an AkiyaDAO field trip its freezing in the winter though so spring/autumn timing is advised https://hikarinoyakata.com/eng/space/
